HOW DOES THE HAY METHOD WORK?
PUBLICATIONS EDWARD HAY
The "Hay method" for job evaluation was invented by: Eugen Benge, Samuel Burk, Dale Purves, William Turner and... Edward Hay:
Eugene Benge came up with the idea that you should decompose a function into a few factors (3): each factor was given a proportionate number of points
William Turner thought that they had to be relative
Samuel Burk came up with the geometric scales - the step concept but still with each factor its own percentage
Edward Hay increased the step size to 15% for all factors for practical reasons
Dale Purves invented the "profile method", in fact the Long Profile
Dale Purves invented the Guide Charts
Edward Hay wrote it all down and published all these developments, from 1946 - 1958
Edward Hay died in 1958. At that time, the 3 Charts did not yet have points, 'Public Administration' was not yet in the picture and the Short Profile had yet to be invented.
